94.7 Children Cycle Challenge 2009

Alexander (6) and Sophie (3) rode in their first 94.7 Children's Cycle Challenge on 7 November 2009. Alexander had been booked to ride the previous year, but was sick and missed it. During the year, he had learnt to ride without training wheels, and had moved onto a 20 inch bike with 6 gears. Sophie was on Xander's old 12 inch bike with training wheels.

They were officially in the same age group of 2-6 years, but it turned out that the batches were by age group and the 6 year olds even had a longer course than the younger kids. They were also sufficiently far apart in time that they could watch each other.

Sophie rode 800 metres with Daddy walking next to her. Xander rode 1.5km and went alone although he could've had a parent with him. Someone fell in front of him, and when he swerved out of the way, he got an uncorrectable wobble, and came off. After being patched up with disinfectant and a plaster, he walked to the finish with a race official, and everyone said he was very brave.
